1 Chronicles 29ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Α′ ΚΘ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

David's final public act is to lead by generosity. He gives from his own treasure, and the leaders and people respond with glad willingness, turning temple preparation into communal devotion.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 1 Chronicles 29 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs–Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. David's final public act is to lead by generosity. He gives from his own treasure, and the leaders and people respond with glad willingness, turning temple preparation into communal devotion. His prayer interprets the offering theologically: greatness, power, glory, victory, and majesty belong to the LORD, and human giving is only a return of what has first come from his hand. Solomon is then made king again in a public act of confirmation, and the narrative closes with David's death after a full and honored life. The chapter is not nostalgic but doxological. The Greek carries the prayer with high rhetorical force, and the final notice of David's reign and death leaves the reader not in loss but in ordered succession and worshipful abundance.

And King David said to all the assembly, Solomon my son, the one whom the Lord has chosen, is young and tender, and the work is great, for the building is not for man but for the Lord God.

David frames the final appealκαὶ εἶπεν
The temple is again defined by its divine addressee; its scale is justified because it is for God, not for human prestige.
