The Third Book of Maccabees, Chapter 7ΜΑΚΚΑΒΑΙΩΝ Γ′ Ζ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Philopator reverses course, the faithful celebrate deliverance, and the memory of rescue is fixed in communal time.

Translation & textual notes

Philopator's reversal after the failed attempt to destroy the Jews is recorded here as a public royal letter, a targeted permission to punish Jewish apostates, and a broad communal celebration of deliverance. The chapter moves from imperial rhetoric to local retaliation, then to liturgical memory and restored status, presenting divine rescue as something to be commemorated permanently in communal time and space.
