The Book of Ezekiel, Chapter 44ΙΕΖΕΚΙΗΛ ΜΔ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The eastern gate, priestly boundaries, and Zadokite service guard holiness.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Ezekiel 44 develops the personnel and access regulations that follow the return of glory. The closed east gate becomes a standing sign of divine entry and ownership: because the Lord entered by it, it remains shut, though the ruler may sit there to eat bread before the Lord. It then sharply revisits Israel's former profanation of the sanctuary through the admission of foreigners uncircumcised in heart and flesh and through the failure of entrusted ministers. The Levites who went astray are not destroyed, but they are demoted to gatekeeping and slaughtering duties, while the sons of Zadok, who kept the charge of the holy things, are singled out for true priestly nearness. The final movement lays out priestly regulations on clothing, bodily presentation, wine, marriage, teaching, judgment, corpse impurity, reentry after cleansing, and economic provision. Holiness in the restored temple is therefore not generic piety but an ordered distinction of roles, boundaries, and embodied disciplines around the sanctuary.
