The Book of Ezekiel, Chapter 47ΙΕΖΕΚΙΗΛ ΜΖ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The temple river heals the land, and the tribes receive renewed inheritance.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Ezekiel 47 unites two major restoration themes: life issuing from the sanctuary and the ordered apportionment of the land. The first vision begins at the temple threshold, where water trickles out and then rapidly grows by measured stages from ankle-depth to an unfordable river. The river's effect is transformative: arid regions are reached, bitter waters are healed, fish teem abundantly, fishermen spread nets, and fruit-bearing trees line the banks with unfailing produce and healing leaves because the waters proceed from the holy place. The second half turns from symbolic abundance to territorial order. The land is bounded anew for the twelve tribes, but with a striking enlargement of belonging: resident foreigners who have begotten children among Israel are to receive inheritance alongside the tribes rather than remain permanently landless. It therefore joins sancta-generated renewal with a widened, carefully measured social settlement under the Lord's restored order.

It opens with life flowing directly from the sanctuary, tying renewal to the holy presence itself.
