The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 12ΙΕΡΕΜΙΑΣ ΙΒ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Jeremiah's protest meets a harder calling, devastated inheritance, and neighbor judgment.

Translation & textual notes

Jeremiah 12 opens as a protest that the faithless flourish while land, beasts, and birds suffer under human wickedness. The Lord's reply does not deny the tension; instead it toughens the prophet for greater strain, warning him that even his own kin are unreliable. The center of the chapter turns from prophetic complaint to divine lament, where house, inheritance, vineyard, and beloved possession are all described as surrendered to devastation because of covenant rebellion. The closing oracle expands outward to Judah's hostile neighbors: they too will be uprooted, yet mercy remains possible if they truly learn the Lord's name instead of Baal's. The unit therefore holds together personal anguish, divine grief, national desolation, and an unexpectedly open horizon for repentant nations.
