The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 14ΙΕΡΕΜΙΑΣ ΙΔ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Drought exposes false prophecy, failed intercession, and Judah's need for the Lord alone.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Jeremiah 14 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. The unit is organized around drought, intercession, and the divine refusal of cheap reassurance. The opening movement surveys the land from gates and nobles to farmers, deer, and wild donkeys, showing creation itself withering under covenant judgment. A communal plea follows, appealing to the Lord's name and presence, but the response declares that this people loved wandering and therefore their guilt will now be remembered. The unit then exposes prophets who promise peace without commission and concludes with tears, confession, and a final acknowledgment that no idol or heaven can provide rain apart from the Lord who made all things. Greek versification is followed here.
