The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 41ΙΕΡΕΜΙΑΣ ΜΑ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Zedekiah's broken slave-release covenant ends in sword, plague, and desolation.

Translation & textual notes

In the Septuagint order this chapter combines two closely related Jeremianic scenes. First comes a final oracle to Zedekiah while Babylon still presses Jerusalem and the last fortified Judean cities. The king will not escape, yet the word softens his end with the promise of a peaceful death and royal mourning. Then turns to the covenant of slave-release made in Jerusalem. The leaders and people briefly obey by freeing their Hebrew male and female slaves, but they soon reverse themselves and drag the freed persons back into servitude. Jeremiah exposes that reversal as profanation of the divine name and as repudiation of the exodus covenant itself. Because Judah would not proclaim release to one another, the Lord now proclaims a grim release over them: to sword, pestilence, famine, and scattering. Greek versification is followed here.
