The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 52ΙΕΡΕΜΙΑΣ ΝΒ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Jerusalem falls, the temple is stripped, yet Jehoiachin's release leaves a final sign of grace.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Jeremiah 52 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. This concluding historical chapter corresponds to the book's final appendix on Jerusalem's fall. In the Septuagint form preserved here, the chapter is shorter and more selective than the Masoretic appendix, but it retains the central sequence: Zedekiah's reign and capture, the burning of the temple and city, the removal of bronze and sacred vessels, the seizure and execution of leading officials, and finally the elevation of Jehoiachin in Babylon. The temple inventory lingers over pillars, sea, capitals, pomegranates, and utensils so that the loss is measured not only politically but liturgically and aesthetically. Yet the last movement refuses to end on ash alone: Jehoiachin is released, reclothed, and fed continually, leaving the book with a small but real sign that David's line has not vanished into silence. Versification follows the LXX.
