Theme

Afflicted faith answers the Lord's rescue with public thanksgiving, vowed worship, and servant praise.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 115 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Afflicted faith answers the Lord's rescue with public thanksgiving, vowed worship, and servant praise. The speaker rejects human reliability, asks how he can repay the Lord, and answers with liturgical gratitude: the cup of salvation, invocation of the divine name, sacrifice, and public vow-paying. The center names the death of the holy as weighty before the Lord, and the psalm closes with the speaker identifying himself as the Lord's freed servant within the courts of Jerusalem. Versification follows the LXX.
