The Book of Psalms, Chapter 7ΨΑΛΜΟΙ Ζ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Under false accusation, David takes refuge in the righteous Judge who turns violence back on the wicked.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 7 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Hostile accusation drives David to seek refuge, submit to judgment, and appeal to the Lord as the warrior-judge who turns violence back upon the wicked. After the superscription ties the poem to hostile words, the psalm moves from refuge and rescue into a formal oath of innocence: if the speaker has repaid evil or harbored injustice, let the enemy utterly prevail. From that self-imprecation the prayer turns outward and upward, summoning the Lord to rise in judgment, gather the peoples, test hearts and kidneys, and distinguish the righteous from the wicked. The closing movement holds together two themes that dominate the psalm's rhetoric: God is both a patient judge and a ready warrior, while the wicked finally collapse into the violence they themselves conceived. Versification follows the LXX.
