The Wisdom of Sirach, Chapter 50ΣΟΦΙΑ ΣΕΙΡΑΧ Ν′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Simon's glorious priesthood crowns Israel's liturgical beauty and closes in prayer.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Sirach 50 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. This unit climaxes the Praise of the Fathers in a richly liturgical portrait of Simon son of Onias, whose architectural care for the sanctuary and whose splendid high-priestly ministry become a visible sign of Israel's ordered worship. The scene then widens from sacrificial spectacle to congregational prostration, blessing, petition for lasting peace and mercy, denunciation of rival peoples, and an authorial colophon that commends this written instruction as a path of wisdom and strength. Greek versification is followed here.
