The Book of Tobit, Chapter 10ΤΩΒΙΤ Ι′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Dramatic contrast shapes the chapter: while Tobias and Sarah remain within the abundance of Raguel's wedding household, Tobit and Anna experience the same delay as accumulating dread.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Tobit 10 follows the standard Septuagint form represented in the imported critical-text base. Dramatic contrast shapes the chapter: while Tobias and Sarah remain within the abundance of Raguel's wedding household, Tobit and Anna experience the same delay as accumulating dread. The narrative then resolves the tension by letting the departure scene answer the parental lament with blessing, goods, and explicit acknowledgement that God has prospered the journey.

And Tobit his father was reckoning every day, and when the days of the journey were fulfilled and they were not coming,

Waiting anxietyκαὶ
The narrative shifts back to Nineveh, where Tobit counts the expected days and feels the absence before any explanation arrives.
