Theme

Siege, theophany, living waters, worldwide kingship, and holiness gather into Zion's climactic future.

Translation & textual notes

Siege, theophany, cosmic transformation, kingship, pilgrimage, and sanctification are gathered into the book's climactic vision. The Septuagint retains the assault on Jerusalem yet emphasizes the Lord's direct battle array, his feet standing on the Mount of Olives, and a reordered creation in which light breaks at evening and living water flows from the city. The chapter then universalizes worship: surviving nations ascend yearly to celebrate the feast of booths before the Lord the king. Its closing movement extends holiness from temple vessels to horse bridles and common cooking pots, ending with the removal of the Canaanite from the house of the Lord and portraying a world in which sacred distinction overtakes ordinary civic life.
