1 Chronicles 16ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Α′ ΙϚ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The chapter falls into two coordinated acts: festal enthronement of the ark in Jerusalem and the institutional ordering of ongoing praise.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 1 Chronicles 16 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. The chapter falls into two coordinated acts: festal enthronement of the ark in Jerusalem and the institutional ordering of ongoing praise. David blesses the people, distributes provisions, and appoints Levites to commemorate, confess, and praise before the ark. The long thanksgiving psalm placed here in David's mouth is a liturgical mosaic made from phrases also known from the Psalter; in Chronicles that reuse is not secondary ornament but a theological claim that Davidic kingship orders Israel's memory, proclamation, and doxology. The close then distinguishes the Jerusalem ministry before the ark from the sacrificial routine at Gibeon, preserving continuity with the older tabernacle-altar complex while the new cultic center takes shape. The Greek presentation is markedly liturgical, filled with imperatives, acclamations, and formulas of perpetual service. The chapter therefore shows that for the Chronicler the ark's arrival is not complete until praise is regularized and entrusted to enduring Levitical offices.

They brought in the ark of God and set it down in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

Ark installation completed with sacrificeκαὶ
The narrative moves directly from transport to enthronement: the ark is not merely stored but installed in a prepared sacred space and accompanied by sacrificial worship.
