1 Chronicles 15ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Α′ ΙΕ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The first sentence already signals correction: David prepares a place and recognizes that no one may carry the ark except the Levites. What failed in chapter 13 is now repaired by attention to divine ordinance.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 1 Chronicles 15 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs–Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. The first sentence already signals correction: David prepares a place and recognizes that no one may carry the ark except the Levites. What failed in chapter 13 is now repaired by attention to divine ordinance. The chapter carefully names Levitical leaders, musicians, singers, and gatekeeping roles, turning the procession into a fully ordered cultic event. Sacrifice and musical celebration accompany the transfer, and David himself is shown in priestly-royal posture, clothed for worship. Michal's disdain at the close anticipates a tension familiar from Samuel, but Chronicles places its stress on the properly ordered joy of the procession. The Greek catalogues names and offices with archival precision, making the chapter one of the clearest early statements of the Chronicler's theology of worship.

καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ οἰκίας ἐν πόλει Δαυιδ καὶ ἡτοίμασεν τὸν τόπον τῇ κιβωτῷ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτῇ σκηνήν

And he made houses for himself in the city of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and he made a tent for it.

David prepares Jerusalem and a proper place for the arkκαὶ ἐποίησεν
The first sentence already signals deliberate correction after the failed transfer. David’s city-building now includes intentional provision for the ark, not merely royal habitation.

David states the Levitical rule for carrying the arkτότε εἶπεν
The chapter names the earlier mistake by implication and sets out the remedy in explicit cultic terms. Proper worship requires proper bearers, and David now speaks in the grammar of divine election and service.

The final note introduces a discordant private response to public liturgical joy. In Chronicles, however, the emphasis falls less on domestic conflict than on the fact that properly ordered worship has at last brought the ark into David’s city.
