1 Chronicles 27ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Α′ ΚΖ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The opening sequence of twelve monthly divisions provides a disciplined military rhythm without suggesting a permanently mobilized host.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 1 Chronicles 27 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs–Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. The opening sequence of twelve monthly divisions provides a disciplined military rhythm without suggesting a permanently mobilized host. Tribal leaders then locate governance within Israel's ancestral structure, while the long list of stewards over royal property shows the economic breadth of the kingdom. Near the close, the census theme reappears: David did not number those under twenty because of the promise of multiplication, and Joab's incomplete counting was not entered because wrath had fallen. That retrospective note is significant. The chapter values organization, but it also remembers that administration has limits when it begins to violate trust in divine promise. The Greek keeps the roster style steady, allowing the theological caution at the end to stand out all the more.

And the sons of Israel, according to their number, the heads of fathers’ houses, commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their scribes, ministering to the people and for every matter of the king by divisions for every matter of those entering and going out, month by month through all the months of the year: each division was twenty-four thousand.

The yearly military-administrative frameworkκαὶ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ
The opening verse is programmatic: Israel’s public order is measured, cyclical, and tied both to the people’s service and to the king’s business.
