The Second Book of Maccabees, Chapter 10ΜΑΚΚΑΒΑΙΩΝ Β′ Ι′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The temple is purified and rededicated, and restored worship is immediately defended through renewed battle.

Translation & textual notes

The purification of the temple, the institution of the annual eight-day celebration, and the campaigns that follow under Antiochus Eupator are recounted here as one restored-worship sequence. The chapter moves from restored worship to renewed warfare, presenting Judas's victories as inseparable from prayer, divine aid, and the vindication of the sanctuary.
