The Second Book of Maccabees, Chapter 2ΜΑΚΚΑΒΑΙΩΝ Β′ Β′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Jeremiah's hidden holy things and the abridger's preface frame the book as remembered sacred history.

Translation & textual notes

This chapter combines a remembered Jeremiah tradition about the hidden sanctuary objects with an authorial preface to the abridged history. The annotations below track both the sacred-memory material in 2:1-18 and the methodological self-introduction of the epitomist in 2:19-32, following the Greek wording of the imported CATSS text while replacing scaffold notes with contextual lexical and syntactic analysis.
