Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Judgment reaches everywhere, yet David's house and land are finally restored.

Translation & textual notes

The prophet's visions reach their climactic close here. The chapter begins with an inescapable judgment issuing from the Lord's own presence at the altar, moves through a declaration that Israel will be sifted among the nations rather than annihilated without remainder, and ends with a restoration oracle in which the fallen tent of David is rebuilt and the land is renewed in enduring fruitfulness.

I saw the Lord standing over the altar, and he said, 'Strike upon the propitiatory, and the porches shall be shaken; cut them down upon the heads of them all, and their remnant I will kill with the sword. No fugitive from them shall escape, and no survivor from them shall be delivered.'

Frameasyndeton
The chapter opens with a vision of the Lord at the sanctuary itself, turning the cultic center into the point from which judgment proceeds.
