The Book of Esther, Chapter 10ΕΣΘΗΡ Ι′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The epilogue joins imperial record with Mordecai's theological rereading of the whole story as providential reversal.

Translation & textual notes

Esther 10 serves as both epilogue and interpretive appendix. The short royal notice in verses 1-2 places Ahasuerus within the ordinary imperial record of tribute, strength, and fame, thereby returning the story to the public archive of empire. Verse 3 then enlarges the close with the Greek addition in which Mordecai interprets the earlier dream, identifies Esther, Haman, and Israel within its symbols, and presents Purim as the divinely ordered outcome of judgment and deliverance. The chapter therefore joins court chronicle, theological retrospect, and transmission note into one final act of remembrance.

But Mordecai succeeded King Artaxerxes and was great in the kingdom, honored by the Jews and beloved; he recounted the ordering of affairs to all his nation and said, “These things came from God, for I remembered the dream that I saw about these matters, and not a word of it failed. The little spring that became a river, with light and sun and much water, is Esther, whom the king married and made queen. The two dragons are I and Haman. The nations gathered together to destroy the name of the Jews, but my nation is Israel, those who cried out to God and were saved. The Lord saved his people and delivered us from all these evils, and God performed signs and great wonders such as had not happened among the nations. Therefore he made two lots, one for the people of God and one for all the nations, and these two lots came to the hour and season and day of judgment before God and among all the nations. And God remembered his people and vindicated his inheritance. These days shall belong to them in the month Adar, on the fourteenth and the fifteenth of the same month, with assembly and joy and gladness before God, through all generations forever among his people Israel. In the fourth year of the reign of Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Dositheus, who said that he was a priest and Levite, and Ptolemy his son, brought in this present letter concerning Phourai, which they said existed and had been translated by Lysimachus son of Ptolemy, one of those in Jerusalem.”
