The Book of Ezekiel, Chapter 42ΙΕΖΕΚΙΗΛ ΜΒ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Priestly chambers and holy boundaries distinguish the sacred from the common.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Ezekiel 42 continues the temple vision by moving from gates and courts to the side-chambers associated with priestly service and to the perimeter that encloses the holy complex. Much of the chapter is architectural and repetitive, but its theological center arrives when the interpreter explains the purpose of the chambers: they are reserved for the priests who draw near to the Lord, the sons of Zadok, who there eat the holy things, place the offerings, and change their garments so that sanctity is not casually carried into ordinary public space. The closing measurements widen the scene from rooms to the whole sacred precinct. The boundary wall and its measurements exist to distinguish between the holy and what is outside, making spatial separation itself part of the chapter's theology. In this vision, holiness is ordered, measured, guarded, and mediated through priestly discipline rather than left undefined.
