The Book of Haggai, Chapter 2ΑΓΓΑΙΟΣ Β′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The Lord answers discouragement with promised glory, covenant holiness, and the lifting up of Zerubbabel.

Translation & textual notes

Haggai 2 gathers three linked prophetic words that move from discouragement over the rebuilt temple's modest appearance to eschatological assurance and covenantal promise. The chapter argues that the Lord's present presence with the builders, his future shaking of the nations, his exposure of the community's impurity, and his final choice of Zerubbabel together redefine the restoration as a work sustained not by visible grandeur but by divine election, holiness, and coming glory.
