The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 6ΙΕΡΕΜΙΑΣ Ϛ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Judah rejects the ancient good way and faces refining fire from the north.

Translation & textual notes

Jeremiah 6 presses the siege of Jerusalem to the foreground. It begins with an alarm sounded from Benjaminite territory as disaster leans down from the north, then presents the invaders as shepherds encircling Zion and impatient to assault her by day or by night. The Lord himself authorizes the siege because the city has become a wellspring of violence, oppression, and deceit. The middle of the chapter broadens the indictment: from the least to the greatest, and from priest to false prophet, Judah is committed to unjust gain and treats the people's wound superficially with counterfeit cries of peace. Then turns to rejected remedies, as the Lord offers the ancient good way, sends watchmen, and rejects perfumed worship because the people refuse both word and law. It closes with the advance of the northern host, communal lament, and a metallurgical verdict in which Judah proves to be refuse silver that the refiner cannot purge.
