The Book of Micah, Chapter 7ΜΙΧΑΙΑΣ Ζ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Social collapse yields to watchful hope and covenant mercy.

Translation & textual notes

The book's closing movement turns from social collapse and civic treachery to patient hope and a final confession of divine mercy. It opens with harvest and vintage imagery to describe the disappearance of the righteous and the exhaustion of every trustworthy human relation; even household bonds have become unstable. From verse 7 onward the voice pivots toward watchful expectation: Zion accepts the Lord's discipline, waits for vindication, and anticipates the shaming of her enemy. It ends in prayer and doxology, asking the shepherd God to restore his flock and praising him as the one who passes over transgression, casts sins into the depths, and remembers the sworn covenant with Jacob and Abraham.

Alas, for I have become like one gathering stubble at harvest and like a gleaning after the vintage, when there is no cluster to eat, no first-ripe fruit for my soul.

Opening lamentasyndeton
