The Book of Nahum, Chapter 3ΝΑΟΥΜ Γ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Nineveh's bloody empire is stripped bare and left incurable.

Translation & textual notes

The oracle against Nineveh is completed by moving from taunt to exposure, from comparison to Thebes, and finally to the irreversible collapse of Assyrian power. Images of bloodshed, prostituting empire, military panic, and locust-like disappearance dominate the scene, and it culminates in the theological claim that Nineveh's wound is incurable because her violence has fallen continually on the nations.

ὦ πόλις αἱμάτων ὅλη ψευδὴς ἀδικίας πλήρης οὐ ψηλαφηθήσεται θήρα

Woe to the city of blood, wholly false, full of injustice; prey will not be groped for there.

Opening woe oracle against Ninevehasyndeton
The chapter opens by naming Nineveh through her crimes rather than by title. Violence, deceit, and predation define the city so thoroughly that the lament becomes a judicial pronouncement.

Have you prepared a portion? Fit a cord; prepare a portion for Amon, she who dwells among rivers, with water around her, whose domain is the sea and whose walls are water.

Comparison invoking No Amon in difficult LXX wordingasyndeton
The Greek here is textually and semantically difficult, but the comparison clearly points to No-Amon/Thebes and her water defenses. The rhetorical force is that even such a city, splendidly situated and fortified, did not remain secure.
