The Book of Nahum, Chapter 2ΝΑΟΥΜ Β′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Nineveh falls in siege, plunder, and the collapse of its den.

Translation & textual notes

The prophet's vivid taunt-song over Nineveh's fall moves from good news for Judah into an almost cinematic portrayal of siege, breach, plunder, and desolation. The rhetoric is rapid and imagistic: heraldic announcement, imperative summons, flashing chariots, opened river-gates, fleeing attendants, emptied treasure houses, and the collapse of the Assyrian lion's den. Throughout, the Greek preserves the martial compression while adding a few turns of phrase that heighten public humiliation and irreversible ruin.

1

ἰδοὺ ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη οἱ πόδες εὐαγγελιζομένου καὶ ἀπαγγέλλοντος εἰρήνην ἑόρταζε Ιουδα τὰς ἑορτάς σου ἀπόδος τὰς εὐχάς σου διότι οὐ μὴ προσθήσωσιν ἔτι τοῦ διελθεῖν διὰ σοῦ εἰς παλαίωσιν συντετέλεσται ἐξῆρται

Behold, upon the mountains are the feet of one bringing good news and announcing peace. Keep your feasts, O Judah; pay your vows, because they shall no longer continue to pass through you into decay; he has been completely removed.

Announcementasyndeton
The verse sounds like a salvation oracle for Judah. The herald formula recalls Isaianic good-news language, but here it serves as the overture to Nineveh's downfall and Judah's restored worship.
