Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Proverbs 34 moves through warnings against presumption, self-praise, jealousy, hidden hostility, displacement, rash speech, domestic strife, insatiable desire, incorrigible folly, and the instability of human power before turning to the durable wisdom of attentive stewardship.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Proverbs 34 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Proverbs 34 moves through warnings against presumption, self-praise, jealousy, hidden hostility, displacement, rash speech, domestic strife, insatiable desire, incorrigible folly, and the instability of human power before turning to the durable wisdom of attentive stewardship. In the Septuagint form, the chapter binds interpersonal wisdom to material prudence: one learns to receive rebuke, treasure loyal friendship, distrust flattering noise, recognize the limits of coercion, and care patiently for field, flock, household, and the lives entrusted to one's oversight.
