Theme

Proverbs 35 gathers sayings on fearless righteousness, fidelity to the law, the moral uses of wealth, parental instruction, honest judgment, oppression, royal conduct, and generosity toward the poor.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Proverbs 35 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Proverbs 35 gathers sayings on fearless righteousness, fidelity to the law, the moral uses of wealth, parental instruction, honest judgment, oppression, royal conduct, and generosity toward the poor. In the Septuagint form, the chapter keeps returning to the contrast between the unstable interior of the ungodly and the steadiness granted to those who seek the Lord, receive discipline, reject partiality, and entrust themselves to wisdom rather than grasping greed or hard-hearted self-confidence.
