Theme

David's vow, the ark's resting place, and the Lord's promise to his anointed shape this long ascent psalm.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 131 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. This long Song of Ascents remembers David’s vow, celebrates the discovery and procession of the ark, and appeals for the Lord to honor his anointed. The middle of the psalm shifts from petition to oath as the Lord swears enduring truth to David regarding throne and descendants, while the closing oracle names Zion as the chosen resting place where food, priestly clothing, rejoicing, and royal light will abound. It is both liturgical memory and covenantal theology, binding worship, kingship, and divine presence together. Versification follows the LXX.
