Theme

Brotherly unity is praised through oil descending on Aaron and dew descending on Zion.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 132 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. This Davidic Song of Ascents praises fraternal unity through two descending images. Shared dwelling is compared first to the consecrating oil that runs from Aaron’s head to the hem of his garment, and then to Hermon’s dew falling upon Zion’s mountains. The final line explains the imagery: in that gathered place the Lord has commanded blessing and life enduring into the age. Versification follows the LXX.
