Theme

Generation after generation blesses the Lord's kingship by telling what he does for the lowly, hungry, and faithful.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 144 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Generation after generation blesses the Lord's kingship by telling both who he is and what he does for the lowly, hungry, and faithful. It repeatedly shifts from what worshipers say about God to what God actually does for the falling, the hungry, the truthful, and the God-fearing, ending in a universal call for all flesh to bless his holy name forever. Versification follows the LXX.
