The Book of Psalms, Chapter 25ΨΑΛΜΟΙ ΚΕ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Integrity pleads for vindication while refusing the company and worship of the wicked.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 25 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as represented in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition. In LXX numbering this chapter corresponds to Psalm 26 in the Hebrew tradition and belongs to the cluster of Davidic prayers of innocence. It asks the Lord to judge and test the speaker, grounds that plea in a life ordered by steadfast love and truth, renounces the company of the vain and lawless, and turns toward the sanctuary with washed hands, praise, and delight in the beauty of God's house. The closing petition asks not to share the fate of the bloodstained and bribed, yet it does not end in self-righteous isolation: integrity still depends on redemption and mercy, and the final stance is public blessing in the assembly. Versification follows the LXX.

τοῦ Δαυιδ κρῖνόν με κύριε ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν ἀκακίᾳ μου ἐπορεύθην καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ κυρίῳ ἐλπίζων οὐ μὴ ἀσθενήσω

Of David. Judge me, O Lord, because I have walked in my innocence, and hoping in the Lord I shall certainly not grow weak.

Opening plea of integrity and trustasyndeton
The psalm begins with a bold request for divine judgment, but the ground is not pride alone. The speaker places his blameless walk together with active trust in the Lord, making integrity inseparable from dependence.

But as for me, I walked in my innocence; redeem me and have mercy on me.

Renewed self-description joined to plea for mercyasyndeton
The contrastive 'but I' reasserts integrity, yet the speaker still asks for redemption and mercy. The psalm refuses to treat innocence as self-saving; even the upright live by divine rescue.

For my foot stood in uprightness; in the assemblies I will bless you, O Lord.

The closing image is firmness rather than anxiety. Upright footing leads not to withdrawal but to congregational blessing, so the psalm ends with integrity ratified in public worship.
