The Book of Psalms, Chapter 37ΨΑΛΜΟΙ ΛΖ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Sin, pain, and shame are laid bare before the Lord in a heavy penitential lament.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 37 follows the standard Septuagint form represented in the Rahlfs-Hanhart tradition. In LXX numbering this chapter corresponds to Psalm 38 in the Hebrew tradition and stands among the classic penitential laments of the Psalter. It moves from a plea that the Lord not rebuke in wrath, to graphic descriptions of bodily collapse under sin and divine pressure, to social abandonment and predatory enemies, and then to a quieter turn of trust, confession, and final petition. Its rhetoric binds physical suffering, moral awareness, and communal isolation into one prayer: the speaker does not deny guilt, yet still asks the God of salvation to come near rather than abandon him. Versification follows the LXX.
