Theme

Zion's praise widens into a vision of forgiveness, ordered creation, and fields overflowing with harvest.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 64 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. It moves from Zion-centered praise into a wide vision of divine forgiveness, creation-order, and harvest abundance. Worship begins with the God who hears prayer and atoningly overcomes human lawlessness, then blesses the one drawn near to dwell in his courts. From there the poem celebrates the Lord as the hope of earth's farthest reaches and of the distant sea, the one who steadies mountains, stills the roar of waters and nations, and fills morning and evening with joy. The final movement lingers over God's visitation of the land: watered furrows, enriched fields, glad hills, clothed flocks, and valleys shouting with grain. Versification follows the LXX.
