The Book of Psalms, Chapter 71ΨΑΛΜΟΙ ΟΑ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

For Solomon, royal justice and peace widen into a kingdom whose blessing reaches the ends of the earth.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 71 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. This royal psalm is framed 'for Solomon,' yet its vision quickly widens beyond any merely local reign. The opening petition asks God to entrust his own judgment and righteousness to the king and the king's son so that the poor may be defended and peace may spread through the land. From there the poem unfolds into a portrait of enduring rule, refreshing beneficence, worldwide dominion, and compassionate deliverance for the needy. The closing stanzas imagine tribute from distant peoples, agricultural abundance, and blessing that reaches all nations before concluding with a doxology that praises the God of Israel, whose glory fills the whole earth. Versification follows the LXX.
