The Book of Psalms, Chapter 74ΨΑΛΜΟΙ ΟΔ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Thanksgiving stands beside the promise that God will judge uprightly, abase the proud, and lift up the righteous.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Psalms 74 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. It of Asaph opens in thanksgiving, but the thanks are immediately tied to a coming act of divine judgment. God announces that he himself will choose the appointed time, steady a melting world, and warn the lawless not to exalt themselves against heaven. The center rejects every merely geographical source of promotion because God alone is judge: he brings one down and raises another, and in his hand is the potent cup from which the wicked of the earth must drink. The closing lines answer that vision with enduring praise to the God of Jacob and with confidence that the strength of the wicked will be cut off while the strength of the righteous is lifted up. Versification follows the LXX.
