The Book of Zechariah, Chapter 8ΖΑΧΑΡΙΑΣ Η′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The Lord answers former wrath with Zion's restoration, truthful worship, and nations eager to seek him.

Translation & textual notes

The severity of chapter 7 is answered with a long sequence of restoration sayings. In the Septuagint the chapter moves from the Lord's jealous return to Zion, to the repopulation and truth-naming of Jerusalem, to encouragement for temple builders, to ethical commands fitted to a restored community, and finally to the transformation of fasts into feasts and of Jerusalem into an international center of pilgrimage. The Greek repeatedly highlights the Lord as παντοκράτωρ and keeps together material blessing, covenant truth, social peace, and eschatological attraction of the nations. The translation therefore follows the LXX's cadence of promise and exhortation, allowing the chapter's restorative breadth to remain visible without flattening its prophetic sequence.
