1 Chronicles 11ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Α′ ΙΑ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The chapter opens with all Israel's acknowledgment that David is both kin and divinely chosen ruler, thereby giving his reign corporate legitimacy from the start.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 1 Chronicles 11 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs–Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. The chapter opens with all Israel's acknowledgment that David is both kin and divinely chosen ruler, thereby giving his reign corporate legitimacy from the start. Jerusalem's capture follows as the political and symbolic securing of Zion. The long remainder of the chapter names the mighty men whose deeds demonstrate that David's kingdom was not a solitary achievement but a shared enterprise under divine favor. Chronicles tends to streamline material that would distract from this positive presentation; the result is a concentrated picture of David's establishment. The Greek preserves the martial catalog style, especially in the feats of the heroes, while the whole chapter presses toward one thesis: David grew strong because the LORD of Hosts was with him.

καὶ ἦλθεν πᾶς Ισραηλ πρὸς Δαυιδ ἐν Χεβρων λέγοντες ἰδοὺ ὀστᾶ σου καὶ σάρκες σου ἡμεῖς

Then all Israel came to David at Hebron, saying, 'Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.'

All Israel acknowledges kinship with Davidκαὶ ἦλθεν πᾶς Ισραηλ
The David narrative opens with all-Israel speech rather than with conflict. Kinship language establishes David's rule as a matter of corporate belonging, not mere conquest.
