1 Chronicles 7ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Α′ Ζ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

This chapter is a composite tribal register moving across Issachar, Benjamin, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Asher.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 1 Chronicles 7 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. This chapter is a composite tribal register moving across Issachar, Benjamin, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Asher. Much of its texture is census-like and martial: heads of houses are named, strong men are counted, and the language of military readiness repeatedly accompanies genealogy. Yet the chapter is not content to be statistical. In the Ephraimite section the register abruptly becomes narrative when Ezer and Elead are killed by the men of Gath, their father Ephraim mourns for many days, and Beriah is born under the sign of household affliction. That brief interruption is one of the chapter's most revealing features: genealogy here is not mere arithmetic but the preservation of tribal memory, including grief, rebuilding, and renewed continuation. The chapter then returns to settlement notices and closes with a full Asherite roll whose abundance and martial quality restore the broader enumerative cadence. The Greek text maintains the Chronicler's compact list-style while allowing that small remembered story to stand out with genuine emotional force.

καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισσαχαρ Θωλα καὶ Φουα καὶ Ιασουβ καὶ Σεμερων τέσσαρες

And for the sons of Issachar: Tola, and Phua, and Jashub, and Shimron, four.

Opening tribal heading: the sons of Issacharκαὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισσαχαρ
The chapter begins not with Judah or Levi but with another set of northern and central tribes. Issachar's opening list establishes the chapter's census-like texture, where lineage and counted strength belong together.
