The Second Book of Chronicles, Chapter 15ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Β′ ΙΕ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Asa turns victory into covenant renewal, purging idols and gathering a people willing to seek the Lord.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 2 Chronicles 15 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. The chapter is the interpretive counterpart to the military success of chapter 14. Victory by itself could be read merely as prowess, but Azariah's oracle explains it as the fruit of seeking the LORD and warns that the same principle governs the future. The prophet's opening formula is one of Chronicles' most programmatic statements: divine presence accompanies covenant faithfulness, while abandonment of God yields abandonment by God. Asa responds not by admiration alone but by intensified reform. He renovates the altar, convenes a great assembly that includes northerners drawn south by evident divine favor, and leads the people into an oath-bound search for the LORD with whole heart and soul. The chapter also keeps the reform costly. The death-sanction of the covenant oath and Asa's deposition of Maacah show that fidelity requires severity even toward the royal household. Yet the dominant tone is joy: the people seek, find, swear, and rejoice, and the LORD gives them rest round about.
