The Second Book of Chronicles, Chapter 25ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Β′ ΚΕ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Amaziah obeys in part, wins by God's help, and then ruins himself through pride and divided loyalty.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 2 Chronicles 25 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. Amaziah receives a mixed verdict from the outset: he does what is right, but not with a full heart. The chapter then unfolds that instability in stages. He begins with measured justice and military organization, learns briefly to trust the LORD rather than hired Israelite troops, and wins a decisive victory over Edom. Yet success becomes the occasion of folly: he imports the gods of Seir, rejects prophetic warning, provokes Joash of Israel, and is humiliated in battle. The Greek keeps the narrative moving with sharp reversals, so that the king's partial obedience is shown to be inadequate for sustained faithfulness. Amaziah's life demonstrates that a divided heart can obey for a time but cannot stand under prosperity.

ὢν πέντε καὶ εἴκοσι ἐτῶν ἐβασίλευσεν Αμασιας καὶ εἴκοσι ἐννέα ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ὄνομα τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ Ιωαδεν ἀπὸ Ιερουσαλημ

Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jehoaddan from Jerusalem.

The new reign is introduced with the standard formulaὢν πέντε
The conventional opening sets up a king whose story will turn on whether this apparently stable beginning can mature into wholehearted fidelity.
