Theme

The restored Passover yields lasting order as priests, Levites, offerings, and storehouses are set in place.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 2 Chronicles 31 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. The chapter narrates the institutional consolidation of Hezekiah's reform. What began in liturgical celebration now becomes public obedience: shrines are dismantled across the land, priestly and Levitical divisions are restored, the king underwrites the regular offerings, the people bring firstfruits and tithes in abundance, and temple chambers are organized so those gifts can be administered faithfully. The Greek repeatedly stresses order, service, and abundance, especially through the clustered vocabulary of ἐφημερίαι, λειτουργία, ἀπαρχαί, δεκάται, and σωροί. The result is a theology of reform that does not stop at dramatic iconoclasm. True covenant renewal provides for worship, sustains ministers, and builds durable administrative structures. The closing two verses deliberately summarize the whole chapter as a model of wholehearted seeking that issues in prosperity.

And when all these things were completed, all Israel who were found in the cities of Judah went out and broke the pillars, cut down the Asherim, pulled down the high places and the altars from all Judah and Benjamin and from Ephraim and Manasseh until they had finished them all. Then all the sons of Israel returned, each to his own possession, to their cities.

Reform zeal spills out from the festival into the whole landκαὶ ὡς
The chapter opens by showing that repentance is not left inside the sanctuary. Worshipful unity becomes concrete iconoclasm across the territories named.
