The Second Book of Chronicles, Chapter 8ΠΑΡΑΛΕΙΠΟΜΕΝΩΝ Β′ Η′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Solomon consolidates his kingdom through cities, labor, worship order, and trade under a holy pattern.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of 2 Chronicles 8 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as established in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, rev. ed. 2006), an ancient and public-domain text; the critical apparatus is not reproduced. This chapter is Solomon's consolidation chapter. It gathers city-building, border control, labor organization, cultic regulation, and overseas trade into one portrait of ordered kingship. The Chronicler's emphases are distinctive. The relocation of Pharaoh's daughter is explained by sacred space concerns, and the narration of regular offerings, priestly divisions, Levitical praise, and gatekeeping occupies as much theological weight as the fortification list. Administrative strength is therefore not presented as secular in contrast to worship; it is subordinated to a kingdom whose health depends on maintaining holiness and inherited liturgical order. The Greek is compact and list-like in the building notices, then more programmatic in the cultic summary, before ending with the Ophir voyage and its large return of gold.
