The Book of Amos, Chapter 3ΑΜΩΣ Γ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Israel's election becomes the ground of judgment under the Lord's revealed word.

Translation & textual notes

Israel's judgment is framed as the consequence of covenant election rather than its cancellation. The chapter moves from the summons to hear the Lord's charge, through a chain of rhetorical analogies that establish the inevitability of prophetic speech and coming disaster, to the concrete announcement that Samaria's strength, cult centers, and luxurious houses will be stripped away.
