The Book of Amos, Chapter 6ΑΜΩΣ Ϛ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Complacent elites feast through ruin and are marked out for exile.

Translation & textual notes

A woe oracle against elite complacency in Zion and Samaria moves from taunt and comparison, to a portrait of luxurious indifference, to an oath-backed sentence of exile and civic ruin. In the Septuagint, the chapter's rhetoric remains sharply social and political: false security, cultivated leisure, and perverted justice are all gathered under the same divine indictment, so that the downfall of Joseph becomes the test of whether privilege has turned into covenant betrayal.
