The Book of Ezekiel, Chapter 7ΙΕΖΕΚΙΗΛ Ζ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The end comes on every side until wealth, sanctuary, and leadership collapse.

Translation & textual notes

The Greek text of Ezekiel 7 follows the standard critical text of the Septuagint as represented in the Rahlfs-Hanhart edition (Septuaginta, Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft); the ancient text itself is public domain, while no critical apparatus is reproduced here. It is a tightly compressed end-oracle in which the word πέρας, 'end,' tolls again and again over the land, making this one of the book's sharpest announcements that Jerusalem's time has run out. The rhetoric moves rapidly through repeated declarations of wrath, the flowering rod of pride, social collapse, futile commerce, military helplessness, and the profanation of silver, gold, and even the sanctuary itself. Several lines are difficult or compressed in the Greek, especially the short cries of vv.3 and 9 and the dense sequence about buying, selling, and life in vv.12-13, but the chapter's burden is unmistakable: every support by which the people thought themselves secure is stripped away. The closing verses are especially important for the theology of revelation in judgment, because prophet, priest, elder, prince, and common people all fail together, and only then do they learn that the Lord is the one who has acted according to their ways.
