The Book of Habakkuk, Chapter 2ΑΜΒΑΚΟΥΜ Β′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Vision and woes set faithful endurance against arrogant empire.

Translation & textual notes

The Lord's answer to the prophet's complaint becomes a carefully structured sequence of vision, contrast, and taunt. It moves from watchful waiting and the famous declaration that the righteous live by faithfulness into a chain of woes against imperial greed, bloodshed, humiliation, and idolatry. The rhetoric is judicial and liturgical at once: the nations become witnesses, the built environment testifies, and the living Lord stands over against both arrogant empire and mute cult-image.

At my watch-post I will stand, and I will mount upon the rock, and I will keep watch to see what he will speak in me and what answer I should give concerning my complaint.

Resolutionasyndeton
The prophet adopts the posture of a sentinel. Complaint gives way to disciplined waiting for the Lord's interpretive response.
