The Book of Isaiah, Chapter 44ΗΣΑΪΑΣ ΜΔ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

The Creator promises Spirit and mocks the craftsmen who make idols.

Translation & textual notes

Isaiah 44 develops the contrast between the Lord's creative fidelity and the absurdity of idols with unusual sharpness in Greek. The first half of the chapter promises Spirit and blessing to Jacob's offspring so that belonging to God becomes a public confession rather than a private memory. The long satire on image-making then dismantles idolatry by dwelling on process: the same wood that warms the craftsman and bakes bread is promoted into a god, exposing worship as a projection sustained by blindness of heart. The closing section turns from mockery to hope. The Lord who alone stretched out heaven also blots out sin, confirms prophetic words, and astonishingly names Cyrus as the coming agent of restoration. Creation, redemption, anti-idol polemic, and imperial history are thus drawn together under the single claim that no rival deity can speak or act as the God of Israel does.
