The Book of Isaiah, Chapter 6ΗΣΑΪΑΣ Ϛ′

Each verse opens with the running Greek, an English translation, and a discourse note (its connective, relation, and role in the argument). Below follows the word-by-word breakdown in six tiers: gloss, case (color), parsing, syntax, semantic force, and a lexical note.

Case Nominative Genitive Dative Accusative Vocative Verb (no case) Indeclinable

Discourse notes head each verse: relation · connective · clause-flow. Indentation marks prominence — flush-left = main line of argument; indented = supporting / subordinate material.

Theme

Isaiah is undone, cleansed, and sent to a people who will not perceive.

Translation & textual notes

Isaiah 6 presents the prophet's call as a temple vision in which divine holiness overwhelms human speech, worship, and vocation. The Septuagint emphasizes the enthroned Lord's exaltation, the seraphic trisagion, and the filling of the house with glory and smoke, then moves from Isaiah's confession of unclean lips to his purification by a coal from the altar. The chapter's commission is paradoxical: the prophet is sent precisely into a setting where hearing does not become understanding and sight does not become perception. Yet the conclusion does not end in pure negation; even after devastation and renewed stripping, the imagery of the remaining tenth preserves the logic of a remnant that survives judgment.

Vision openingasyndeton
The call vision is anchored in the year of Uzziah's death and immediately shifts attention from earthly kingship to the enthroned Lord.
