Theme

Zion's vindication will not be silenced until holiness fills the land.

Translation & textual notes

Isaiah 62 is the chapter of Zion's unsilenced vindication. The prophet refuses silence until Jerusalem's righteousness shines out, and the city receives a sequence of new names that reverse abandonment: no longer Forsaken and Deserted, but a land delighted in and a bride joined to her husband. The Septuagint emphasizes both visibility and covenantal joy, repeatedly presenting Zion as an object of divine and international recognition. The middle of the chapter joins nuptial imagery to watchman imagery: sentinels on the walls are charged never to rest until Jerusalem becomes praise in the earth. The closing verses combine oath, harvest-security, and heraldic command as salvation approaches and the people are named holy, redeemed, and sought out. Versification follows the LXX.
